Hi! I am Cassandra and I am The Sugar Free Pantry! I am a mum of two children under 5, I work full time and I started The Sugar Free Pantry because of my amazing partner Ash who also happens to be a Type 1 Diabetic.

Diabetes in every stage runs through my family. I have 4 family members with Type 1 Diabetes and other family members which have or have had Type 2 Diabetes, Gestational Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes. Diabetes has affected both babies and adults in my family and no matter when they got it or how they got it it's just horrible and as my partner says “he would not wish it on his greatest enemy.”

My journey started when trying to find foods and drinks for my partner Ash to eat because I did not want him to feel like he was missing out. Ash loves chocolate and everyone should get to enjoy things they love right?

My biggest issue was I found it hard to find foods and drinks all in one place and reading all the labels ugh, the time spent standing in the supermarket aisles searching for things, searching online, reading nutrition panel after nutrition panel and of course the most important thing is finding something that taste’s good. (It is harder than it sounds)

I want to create a place where people can come, (You don’t have to be a Diabetic) that want to eat less sugar in their diet and find yummy, healthy, low carb and low sugar foods. Imagine an online supermarket but only selling low carb and low sugar products! That is the goal and the dream! Even Low Carb and Low Sugar Gift Hampers are on the dream list!

Every product I sell in my store I have read all the labels myself, and had my partner and family taste test to make sure it gets the tick of approval. My aim is for the sugar content to be at a max 10g in each product per serve. However I mainly try for say 6g and under per serve. I clearly mark the amount of carbs and sugar in the product description to make it easy for you to find.

Of course everyone has different responses to different types of sweeteners and additives etc. and if you are a Diabetic you need to consider these things when purchasing a product, and make sure it is right for you.

I do however hope you are able to find something that you will love and tickles your taste buds. I just want to make things that little bit easier for everyone, even if it is as simple as being able to offer your Type 1, 6yr old daughter a sugar free cake option for her birthday or your 45 yr old mum with Type 2 Diabetes an alternative so she can still enjoy baking cakes for her family. Or in my case a delicious low sugar and low carb chocolate bar for the man I love.

 Warmest,

The Sugar Free PantryCassandra
